Are EVs as polluting as IC engine vehicles as India largely depends on thermal power?

On a well to wheel comparison, even after accounting for 80% polluting thermal power and the CO2 that will be produced when all the lithium battery cells are produced in India, there is a 40% reduction in the CO2 in an electric two wheeler over the life cycle of the product. When calculated at the proposed increase of renewable energy generation in India, this CO2 reduction figure become 60% by 2025. In addition the petrol vehicles emit very harmful emissions like NOx, non-methane hydrocarbons and suspended particulate matter.
