What is the current level of electrification in the transport sector in India?
Despite the policy intervention for 3 years, there are hardly any electric vehicles on the Indian roads. There are no electric cars other than Mahindra Reva and some feeble attempts on electric buses. Although there are a dozen two-wheeler electric brands but most of them are assembling low speed electric scooters using Chinese kits. E-Ricks (25km/hr low quality 3 wheelers) are a recent phenomenon and there are more than 200 assemblers of Chinese kits and around 10 manufacturers. Some very mild hybrid cars were sold by Suzuki before the Indian government withdrew the incentives on hybrids.
